I am not old.
I am not fat.
I am not lazy
I am doing something active every day
OK then, now that I have my Stuart Smalley action done, I am gonna write a short, concise post.
I cannot get enough trail riding done. I have split my time between the Steel Hardtail 1x9 and the Double Boinger (29er). After recently investing in a great headlight, the excuses are done. I love to ride at night and am now actively looking for a group to do it with.
Earthriders anyone?
Now, we have an election in a week. I could not be more despondent about the choices. Corporatism run amok. I blame YOU.
Cheers.

So's I said to the Monsiegnor, hey! That's my...
The title of this post is the punchline to a joke that doesn't exist. It is to be repeated loudly as someone easily embarrased walks up to a conversation. Fun ensues. You watch that person cringe and you watch the people around you cringe (if someone doesn't cringe, become friends with them immediately, you do not want to be left out the fun you two can have) and just enjoy the moment. Making people uncomfortable is one of the great pleasures of comedy. But do you know what is not comedy, but makes me uncomfortable?
The GOP talking about Tax Policy!
All of this nonsense about cutting taxes to stimulate the economy is fine IF you cut taxes for the people that are hurting. I suggest a payroll tax holiday for both employers and employees. In the short term this will add to the deficit, but really, what isn't now a days? What I have no patience for is the renewal or permanance of the bush tax cuts. ESPECIALLY THE ESTATE TAX.
The estate tax is literally the only bulwark in the united states to check the accumulation and generational transfer of wealth. In the US, the accumulation of wealth is really obnoxious and immoral. The old arguments that the wealthy stimulate the economy is just ridiculous. Certainly the entrepreneuers have built this country, but I see no reason to give their heirs any more than half of their parents' estate.
Sure, trustafarians can do some good things, they can build new wealth, etc. But half of fortune is often more than their benefactor started with. Lets see what they can do with some seed money or hard work. Earn it kids and lets start over when you're dead.
By the way, the missing word in the title is anus.
Fucking Hilarious...

how can I afford my rock and roll lifestyle?
Well, I can't.
But I can enjoy it. Last week, my production company and I headed to Ozark, Ar for some Wakarusa and I learned the following:
1. I don't like widespread that much, but I get that those fuckers can play.
2. I think dweezil zappa has balls of steel for taking on his father's catalog
3. Black Joe Lewis
I am also playing a show with the SunEaters today at the Brick. It has been 3 years since I played a show there and I was with the Blue Leaves then. I am really looking forward to it. Brannock Device; Ants; Suneaters. We go on at 12-1230 ish.
Finally, I am fat. Don't judge me.

Sometimes I feel like a broken record
I used to have a blog that was pretty active, I liked it, others did not. I believe I will re-post a few things from that little ditty...if'n you don't mind. So lets go back to the waning years of the Bush II presidency.
Its sort of ironic given the HC act and the SCOTUS' rulings on corporate identity eh?

What you got to do is run it like a business...
BULLSHIT!
I believe that Corporations have way to much power in the United States. We have GRANTED them the status of an individual in the eyes of the law and somehow it has become ingrained in the American psyche that its organic. We actually have people that think it is a good thing.
Its not. The corporatization of everything is immoral and un-American. For an entity that has nothing but the best interests of its shareholders to hold sway in health care, campaign finance, public safety, social program or public education is just wrong. The very people that are supposed to be protected in these sectors are losing out. A perfect example of the failure of corporations can be found in the healthcare industry.
In healthcare, we have amazing advances in lifesaving technology, but we have an entire underclass that does not have access to these miracles. Should executives of non-profits be paid multi-millions AND be the only ones with access to the latest and greatest? NO!
No insurance? Go to the emergency room. Its closed? Well they couldn't keep it open - they wanted to make their wall-street targets. .
Cost savings by privatization are short lived and the ultimate responsibility for the care of patient becomes vested in a corporation. Back to the shareholders best interest, not only that, I believe that we are flirting with the unconstitutional - "provide for the common welfare" anyone? Healthcare is for the good of society, profit motives should not be the first quantifier for healthcare.
Corporations are good at delivering oil, televisions or telecom, all industries that have products that we can hold and sell and won't make decisions that can kill us if the stockholders are unhappy with their profits.
It does not work for healthcare because healthcare is not a right or a privilege, it is a basic service that should driven by concern for the patient not by economics. Yes, people die, yes not everyone needs or should get a new lung, but everyone should be able to get their appendix out and a leg set by someone besides frontier dave. (Don't give me that shit about R&D - We all know that someone will step in and become the next Jonas Salk) We should not have to worry about catching some pandemic flu in an overcrowded hospital because the BOD decided that the sister hospital down the road duplicated services and was not making enough money and needs to be closed down. We should ALL have access to affordable, safe health services.
The time has come to once again check the power of the corporation in the US. For the good of the country needs to be placed ahead of profit:
"The money changers have fled from their high seats in the temple of our
civilization. We may now restore that temple to the ancient truths. The measure
of the restoration lies in the extent to which we apply social values more noble
than mere monetary profit."

Are we ready to do it again?

Rock and/or Roll
Played a lovely show on saturday, a surprise birthday party for one CC. It was a surprise.
The current band I am in as well as a little BL action. It was joyous...
It got me thinking about how happy playing music has made me over the past 30 years. Sure, I have taken time off, have played in really bad bands, have played in really good bands and have accepted that it is just the way it is. I like the idea of sound and sharing and tunes and performance and everything that goes into it.
SO
It is nice to be OK with who you are and what makes you happy. Sure, schedules and commitments and life get in the way... but there comes a time when it is entirely appropriate to say that something is non-negotiable. I think I found it.
MMMMHMMMMM
I hope I die old, on a stage. Maybe my kid will be playing with me. Wouldn't that be something?

Ever have a vacation that wasn't?
Well, I just came back from one. My conclusion, either I never go on vacay or I go more often and not contact or allow any other contact to talk to me whilst gone.
I like that.
Meh.
I like that.
Meh.
